a caption cache, not a music downloader

The words between
the video and the game.

EverythingStar YouTube is a small, non-commercial service for turning the captions of a YouTube video into a timed lyrics chart. It is the dynamic, caption-backed sibling of the file-backed EverythingStar FOSS library.

What it does

You paste a YouTube URL. The service resolves the video, reads its caption track list, and keeps the best track: manual captions for text, auto captions for word times when they are more accurate. The raw payload is stored in object storage; the normalised lines, words and search index live in a database. The site shows a synced transcript and exports LRC, SRT, VTT and the EverythingStar chart.

A second provider searches Chorus Encorethrough its public API and returns .sng chart packages. That is a different source: full-band Clone Hero / Rock Band charts, not captions. No Enchor page is scraped.

What it deliberately does not do

  • No audio or video download, extraction, transcoding or proxy. The video is played by the official YouTube player.
  • No pitch extraction, so no vocals chart. Captions give words and times, not melody; a lyrics chart is the honest result.
  • No YouTube search. Only videos somebody pastes in enter the cache.
  • No accounts, no cookies, no trackers.
  • No invented words for a video with no captions, and no fake timings presented as exact.

The timing labels

Word

The track carries a real time for each word. The highlight follows the spoken word.

Aligned

Manual caption text is matched to an auto-caption word track. Good words, close times.

Line

Only the cue times exist. Words are split across the cue and the highlight is estimated.

Why the cache matters

A text search reads the database and nothing else. It is fast, private and free of YouTube calls. Adding a URL is the one explicit request to fetch a caption track, and the result is shared by everyone who searches later. That is also why the cache is small and deliberate: it grows only when somebody asks for a specific video.

Captions, copyright and accuracy

Captions are user-contributed and remain the property of their creators. Auto-generated captions often contain typos, missing punctuation or wrong words. Enchor charts likewise remain their charters’ work; keep their credits and licence terms. This service is not affiliated with YouTube, Google, Chorus Encore or Bridge. It does not sell access or run ads. Every song page has a report/takedown link; blocked videos are removed from the cache and never fetched again.

If you own a caption track and want it removed, use the report link on its song page or write to hello@happypaul55.com. Include the video URL and the reason.

The family

EverythingStar is the browser rhythm game that reads playlists. EverythingStar FOSS is the non-commercial library of file-backed songs. This project is the caption-backed provider: no stems, no audio, just the words and the clock.
